If you had 5 minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds?
Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to enlighten us – quickly.
"Fueled by passion, governed by time"
Born in Eugene 1981, an Oregon native and Bend High Alumn (Class of 99). A short stint at the Berklee College of Music after high school. Graduate of the Lititz Watch Technicum (Class of '07, AWCI, WOSTEP certifications). Upon graduation I
worked as a watchmaker for Rolex for a little over a year. I left Rolex to pursue my passion for restoring high end vintage timepieces and building a workshop in Oregon to manufacture my own timepieces at home, close to my family. I spend most of my "free" time fly-fishing, hiking and playing guitar. My family and my dog are absolutely everything to me. I now own and operate my business in Sisters, where I make watches by hand, one at a time.
Being one of only two people in the U.S. that manufactures watches entirely by hand time is my passion. I have the beautiful gift of loving what I do and waking up every day motivated to make an impact in an industry most don't even know exists. The luxury watch market is made up of household names, Rolex, Heuer, Omega, Patek Philippe, etc. But within this already niche market lies 45 people (globally) who have chosen a more difficult path. People who's passion surpasses any form of common sense. People who don't like rules, who have to do things their own way and who think outside the box. We are proudly called Independent Watchmakers and we make micro-mechanical machines that are worn on the wrist or in the pocket.
In a world of instant gratification and increased demand for products that require less human intervention we Independent Watchmakers make a product that requires more. It never ceases to amaze me that my clients are happy to wait the 2+ years it takes me to make a watch by hand (some makers are out 5+ years). In an age of batteries and digital displays our watches are analog, and purely mechanical. The winding and wearing of a handmade timepiece truly has to be experienced to be understood. The feeling of the gears meshing and the clicks of the springs passing is the reason I get up everyday. To be able to measure the time of my life passing on a watch that I made is as rewarding as anything I can imagine. Ignite would give me the opportunity to share my lifes passion and hopefully change the way people think when they check the time on their cell phones. Time is a treasured gift and people need to know that there are still passionate artisans in the world that make it their profession.
