Biography
Ashley enthusiastically harvests eggs and kale almost every morning for breakfast on her backyard diversified organic vegetable farm, located in mid-town Bend. She and her husband, Brian, look forward to expanding their food production through winter and into their front yard soon. Since recently completing the OSU-Cascades Master of Arts in Teaching program, she looks forward to every day she now gets to share in garden-enhanced learning opportunities with elementary school students in her role as an OSU Extension Nutrition Educator.
Description
I used to be a CSA member. Now I grow my own CSA share in my backyard. It started small with just a couple of beds, and has now expanded to almost 600 square feet of fruit and vegetables, almost half the size of our house. My presentation briefly explains my background, and then walks the audience through the gradual expansion process of our backyard farm, highlighting our successes as a result of planning, season extension, and micro sprinkler irrigation, as well as how we have balanced food production with increasing the aesthetics of our yard.
