Description
There’s a lot of bad news out there. Climate change, illegal government activities, rising costs of education and living, and decreasing economic opportunity are just a few of the wide range of issues we care about which seem to be going nowhere good.

Most of us across the political spectrum know enough of this picture to see two key things:
1. There’s something deeply wrong with our political system
2. We should contribute or get involved - but are unsure how

I’ll explore these two primary barriers we face to living in a more productive, thriving world, and review some basic solutions and initial steps we can take on individual and local levels. Then I’ll look at some of the larger, core issues and long-term, big-picture goals we’ll need to address collectively as Oregonians and as Americans.

The world is complex, and government, organizations, and people are all imperfect. I’ll share my own challenges of getting more involved in civics, and present some things I’ve learned from a personal development perspective, which I believe to be a key element in understanding modern disengagement.

I hope to convey my passion and optimism of being a more engaged citizen; the need for us to better answer the call to our civic duty–however imperfect and difficult–and to highlight the joys, laugher, and satisfaction of stumbling forward together, as citizens.
