Description
I moved to Bend seven months ago to be a part of envisioning what a non-profit in Bend called Trailhead, now called Common Table, would be. In less than seven months we are opening a non-profit cafe and pub in downtown Bend. Our mantra and mission is: Feed All People, Cherish the Earth, and Pursue Awareness. As a non-profit, Common Table will put 20% of gross profits towards charity. The Common Table strategy is to accomplish this by distributing $10 voucher tokens to other select non-profits for distribution to the economically needy, so that all may eat and be represented at the Common Table. The Common Table intends to Cherish the Earth by sourcing food locally and making 'green' decisions whenever and however possible. We know we won't do this perfectly, and that there will be many growing edges, but this is our passion, our mission, and our intention. Common Table will cultivate a culture of Pursuing Awareness through: dialogue; educational forums; pre-fixed event discussion dinners; a great library of books; periodicals and other resources; opportunity for spiritual practice of meditation and discussion; food and focus on physical health. Mind, Spirit, Body. From the beginning support has been pouring in for this project. A retired architect that I met on the street while doing work on the exterior of the cafe donated a 20 feet x 3 feet wide x four inch thick plank of beautiful black walnut that will serve as The Common Table at the cafe. We are busy renovating the Common Table space (former Cork Restaurant) and are looking forward to a grand opening the first week in October.
