About Ignite

If you had 5 minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds?

Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to enlighten us – quickly.

Emilie Cortes

Call of the Wild Adventures, Inc.

www.emiliecortes.com and www.callwild.com

Here is my "long bio:" Emilie Cortes, MBA, CFA, CAIA, is an avid high-altitude glacier mountaineer. Her previous climbs include Makalu, Mt McKinley (Denali), Mt Rainier, Mt Whitney, Mt Baker, Mt Shasta, Mt Sill, Kilimanjaro, Mexico Volcanoes and Ecuador Volcanoes, among others. Emilie runs an all women’s adventure travel company called Call of the Wild Adventures, Inc. She recently left her finance career to align her passion and vocation – empowering women through positive experiences in the outdoors. Emilie’s 16-year career in financial services has spanned business valuations, quantitative risk analytics for equity and fixed income investors and Structured Credit transactions. She most recently served as a Senior Investment Consultant for institutional investors at Alan Biller and Associates. Emilie received her MBA in Finance from UC, Berkeley and her BSBA in International Business from American University, summa cum laude. Emilie holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst designation, as well as certificates demonstrating business proficiency in French and Spanish. Emilie has served a Director on the Board of the National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA), President of the San Francisco Chapter of NAWMBA, and as Chair of the Sierra Club Peak Climbing Section. She leads trips for Call of the Wild, GirlVentures, and Sierra Club Peak Climbing and Snowcamping sections. Emilie speaks frequently on leadership, women's empowerment, and adventures in the big mountains. Emilie blogs at www.emiliecortes.com and is also a regular contributor to Sierra Journal and The Scree.

I will modify a talk I give frequently, primarily to female audiences, called "Women on Top - Lessons for Life and Business from the Mountains." The BendIgnite version, "Peak Performance," will be gender neutral and focus on the obstacles that we all face in life, how to work through those obstacles by changing our perspective, setting and achieving goals, and looking at fear and risk differently. This is all done through the backdrop of my mountain photography and mountaineering stories. I believe my message is particularly compelling as I am a small woman who was never very athletic as I was growing up. My introduction to and success in the big mountain world really transformed me as a person and those are the lessons I love to share with others.
